LETTERS NEEDED TO RESTORE ESL FUNDING
IMMEDIATELY
- CSCS is working with the NY Immigration Coalition to win back the ESL funding that was cut. We sent a copy of our ESL survey you participated in to you. A copy is on our website –
www.cscs-ny.org
- $1 million budget request - We are asking for a $750,000 restoration which was the highest amount ESL was funded at. Additionally, we are asking for another $250,000 to expand the program to other senior centers.
- We are stipulating that the 38 senior centers that were receiving ESL money get the funds if money is restored.
What you can do:
- Use the attached model letter and get ESL students to write their own letters.
- Have them write one letter to Mayor Bloomberg and one letter to Speaker Gifford Miller.
- Send the letters to CSCS in two manila envelopes: one with the letters to Bloomberg and one with the letters to Miller. We will deliver these letters with other advocates at a press conference on March 23rd at City Hall.
Please do not send us individual letters. Mail them to us in bulk as we can’t handle the volume of individual letters. Thank you.
- Join us at a press conference at City Hall on March 23rd – time to follow.
