Meet with your Representative

Meet with your assembly member and senator or their chief of staff ASAP – It is best if they come to the senior center. If not, meet with them in their office. From Feb. 16-25 they are home so try to get a meeting then. In March, they are home only on Fridays. The message is: the Assembly and Senate must reject Governor Cuomo’s proposal in the budget bill to cut Title XX senior center funds.”

Ask your representative to Sign on to Assemblymember Dinowitz's Letter

Get your Assembly member to sign on to Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz’s, Aging Committee Chair, letter opposing Title XX cut.
Click here to see the letter.
Each NYC Assembly member has received this letter. Assemblyman Dinowitz got all but two Assembly members to sign on last year and it made an important difference in preventing the Title XX cut.

Make Calls

Call your state assembly member and senator as soon as possible in their local office:

“I GO TO THE __________ SENIOR CENTER. (OR IF YOU DON’T GO TO A CENTER – “I AM CONCERNED ABOUT SENIOR CENTERS.”) PLEASE STOP THE TITLE XX CUT THAT WOULD CLOSE 110 SENIOR CENTERS IN NEW YORK CITY. I DON’T WANT MY SENIOR CENTER OR ANY OTHER SENIOR CENTER TO CLOSE. MY SENIOR CENTER KEEPS ME ACTIVE AND HEALTHY. THANK YOU.”

Write Letters

Letter writing campaign – go to www.cscs-ny.org to see letters to your local state representatives, Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, and Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos. We are the network that produced 20,000 letters to stop the senior center RFP and 17,000 letters to stop the case management cut. We need 20,000 letters or more to stop the Title XX senior center cut. One Brooklyn senior center pledged to send 600 letters. How many will you do? Click here to see the model letters. If you don’t live in NY, send letters only to Silver and Skelos.

  • Bring the letters when you meet with your state representatives either in their office or at your senior center
  • or
  • Mail the letters to their local district office
  • Mail letters to Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver and Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos
