NEW YORK – Seniors, advocates and elected officials came together at PSS Davidson Center in the Bronx to speak out against cuts in senior services as proposed by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg. They called on the city council to vote against the budget that contains senior services cuts.

The Council of Senior Centers and Services said the close to $40 million cut would "decimate programs and leave service providers scrambling for financial resources."

Bobbie Sackman, the group's director of public policy, said the city council has always been "a staunch supporter of senior services." As budget negotiations continue, "we need them to once against keep in mind older New Yorkers, the roe they play in the community, and the contributions they continue to make in this great city."
