State budget woes could force the Bloomberg administration to close as many as 75 senior centers around the city by July.

The city Department of the Aging says that 50 centers will definitely be closed, with another 25 on the chopping block, if the city does not get enough funding from Albany.

The targeted centers are the ones that serve the fewest meals, have the fewest operating hours, and have the most maintenance or management problems.

The department says Manhattan could lose the most – up to a dozen – because it has the most senior centers.

The city’s decision stems largely from Governor David Paterson’s proposal to redirect millions in federal dollars traditionally reserved for senior centers toward state programs to combat domestic violence and elder abuse.
