TITLE XX CAMPAIGN DOWN TO THE WIRE!
GOVERNOR CUOMO'S BUDGET TO BE RELEASED TUESDAY, JANUARY 17TH
The Title XX advocacy campaign has accomplished great things:
- Seniors sent 16,642 letters to Governor Andrew Cuomo - in English, Spanish and Chinese - urging him not to propose a Title XX cut for the third consecutive year that would close 105 senior centers. Thank you all for that remarkable outpouring of letters!
- Opposition by State and City elected officials: Letters of opposition to a cut have been sent by the State Assembly, Senate and City Council. To view the letters, Click Here
- A joint letter from CSCS, Citymeals, the Federation of Protestant Welfare Agencies , the Human Services Council, UJA-Federation of NY and United Neighborhood Houses was sent to Governor Cuomo asking him not to include a Title XX cut in his budget.
- Our December 1st City Hall press conference was attended by the Department for the Aging Commissioner Lilliam Barrios Paoli as well as 20 city and state legislators or their representatives speaking out against a Title XX cut. There is bipartisan opposition to a Title XX cut. WNBC and other media outlets covered the story.
- CSCS met with staff in Albany in Governor Cuomo's office and the Division of Budget as well as Assembly and Senate finance divisions. The FY2012-13 Title XX fact sheet can be found HERE
The message is clear and out there. We're asking Governor Cuomo to decide not to include this cut for the third consecutive year. We're hoping that rather than putting seniors through the budget dance again, he will preserve Title XX funding for senior centers which will leave the seniors dancing for joy at their senior centers!
CSCS WILL KEEP YOU UPDATED AFTER THE BUDGET IS RELEASED!
