ELDER ABUSE FUNDS FULLY RESTORED

FRAIL ELDERLY LOSE MORE SERVICES -
$3.6 MILLION CUT, 16.5%, TO CASE MANAGEMENT

It's been a grueling 8 months as we all fought to retain funding for a mid-year 30% cut to case management, 105 senior center closures due to Title XX cuts, and $39 million of proposed city cuts to DFTA. CSCS is grateful for the remarkable teamwork of staff and seniors that fought these cuts.

  • City Council restored $29 million to DFTA funded services plus $5.5 million of City Council discretionary funds for senior services.
  • Baselining is when funds are put back into DFTA's budget and remain there beyond one year. We have been doing the "budget dance" for many years, having to fight for the same money year after year. While these funds could still be cut in the future, City Council deserves great thanks for negotiating this baselining with the understanding that senior centers desperately needed this money to continue operating effectively. This is the first baselined money at DFTA in ten years.
  • The loss of case management funds is troubling considering the high demand for this program from the fastest growing segment of the city's population, age 85+. CSCS will continue to advocate for case management and services for the frail elderly.
  • The miscellaneous social services funding stream also provided services to frail elderly.
