ACTION ALERT
July 16, 2010
CITY HALL PRESS CONFERENCE ON
CUTS TO STATE MEMBER ITEMS
CSCS ON MEMBER ITEMS –
“IT’S NOT PORK, IT’S MEAT AND POTATOES!”
What is happening:
- CSCS is working in coalition with other organizations to give voice to the importance to member item funds for the aging services network and social services for all New Yorkers. SOFA receives $10 million through member items statewide. Losing these funds would be a substantial cut on top of all the other city and state cuts.
- As a prior alert stated, last week Governor David Paterson vetoed unspent member item funds from FY2009-10 and previous years that many nonprofits receive to provide critical services. The list of vetoes can be found here
- There is also a real possibility that there will not be member item funds for FY2010-11.
- It is very important that Governor Paterson and your state senators hear from your agency staff, board and older adults immediately to ensure that an agreement is made for member item funding for this coming fiscal year.
What you can do:
- 1. HOLD THE DATE - This coalition of social services providers is holding a press conference to call attention to this serious situation. The press conference is tentatively set for (will confirm):
Date – Tuesday, July 27th
Time – 11:30-12:30
Location – Steps of City Hall
- 2. Write letters and make phone calls to your State Senator(s) immediately. See attached letter. Click here for a List of Senators
Phone call message - “Don’t cut member item funds. My (name of program) will lose money for important services. It’s not pork, it’s meat and potatoes. Seniors all over New York City will also lose services they need. We can’t take any more cuts. Thank you.”
