NYC Hunger Free

Only about 30-40% of eligible seniors participate in the food stamps program.

More than 80 percent of seniors who receive food stamps have total income below the federal poverty level, and about 80 percent live alone.

The Hunger Free Communities Consortium (HFCC) is a consortium that brings together organizations from many different sectors, including the collaboration of the hunger groups and the aging network for the first time.  Nine organizations are members of the HFCC:  New York City Coalition Against Hunger, Food Bank of New York, City Harvest, Public Health Solutions, Council of Senior Centers and Services of New York City (CSCS), Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty, New York City Department for the Aging (DFTA), United Way, and AARP – NY.  Collectively, these organizations will work towards the creation of a hunger-free community in all five boroughs, with a particular focus on aiding the especially vulnerable population of households with children, working poor, and senior citizens.
NYC Hunger Free is dedicated to helping you connect with nutritious food to keep you and your familly healthy.  If you or someone you know is having difficulty accessing food, you may be eligible for food assistance programs. Call 1-855-NYC-HFCC (692-4322) or go to www.nychungerfree.org to find out.
For Seniors - You can meet with one of our food stamp specialists at local senior centers throughout NYC.  Take a look at the schedule (word format) to learn more.
